The Judicial Services Association (JSA) comprising Magistrates and District Judges across the island stated that it was perturbed by the admitted presence of the Chief Justice at the Temple Trees at a time when the commission of an alleged conspiracy was hatched.
Issuing a statement under the signature of JSA secretary Puttam District Judge Ranga Dissanayake, the JSA emphasized the importance of the judiciary to maintain absolute impartiality on important issues such as this while reiterating its duty to remain detached from political and executive decisions.
The JSA expressed hopes that the Chief Justice would act in such a manner so as to preserve the honor and dignity of the judiciary.
Multiple parties have already confirmed that Chief Justice Mohan Peiris was present at Temple Trees on the election night. Even Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, who went there before former President Rajapaksa left his official residence, had spotted the Chief Justice at Temple Trees.
