Former Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa will be questioned next by the CID over the alleged ‘Election Night Coup’, Police sources told Asian Mirror.
Gotabhaya Rajapaksa who is also the brother of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa, will be questioned by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) on the grounds that he was also present in Temple Trees on January 9 with a group who were allegedly involved in a ‘plot’ against the democratically elected President Maithripala Sirisena.
However, in an interview with The Island, the former Defence Secretary flatly denied all allegations of his involvement in any "conspiracies" on the night of the Presidential Election.
“It is a result of a political witch-hunt, because the former President’s early departure from Temple Trees even before the release of election results concluded, has made it evident that no such attempter to tamper with the election results was being planned.”, he had said
He had added that the allegations were simply made to discredit his brother former President Mahinda Rajapaksa.
