Minister of Power and Energy Patali Champika Ranawaka said that he had received information of a plan to spread rumors about an ‘fuel shortage’ following the decrease in fuel prices.
The government has already announced that there will be a fuel price reduction parallel to the Independence Day on February 04.
“I urge oil distributors not to get caught up in these sinister acts and we will take severe action against those who are involved in this sort of foolish attempts to sabotage the country’s progress”, the Minister said yesterday
The Minister asserted that necessary steps are in place to reduce the prices of Kerosene, Petrol and Diesel in the coming days just as it was mentioned in the common opposition’s 100 day agenda.
Meanwhile, speaking about certain irregularities which were reported earlier about the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation, Minister Ranawaka said that investigations would be launched and he, as the Minister, would provide full cooperation to the investigators.
The Minister remarked that the responsible parties will be prosecuted with the aid of evidence that will be revealed through investigations." It is the people of the country who get affected by this situation. We cannot let people suffer due to acts of sabotage," Ranawaka added.
