State Minister of Child Development and UNP Parliamentarian Rosy Senanayake said that all who deserve punishment would receive it under the administration of the new government.
“Corruption played a pivotal role under the Rajapaksa regime and no actions were taken against people who were responsible for certain despicable crimes”, she said while speaking to Sirasa TV last night. She added that people who were surrounding the Rajapaksas often took law unto themselves.
Explaining the present government’s stance on bribery and corruption, Senanayake said the perpetrators would be punished regardless of their position, party or social status.
“The 100 day plan of President Maithripala Sirisena clearly states that punishment will be given to parties who are responsible and we will take steps to ensure that law and order is maintained within the country ”, the Minister said.
Senanayake asserted that the government will also take steps to ensure that the women of Sri Lanka will be given a prominent place and that they will make sure all the necessary steps are taken to address the problems women face.
“Any sort of abuse, torture or mistreatment especially against women and children would not be taken lightly and the responsible parties would be prosecuted regardless of their positions”, she added.
