The newly appointed Minister of Power and Energy Patali Champika Ranawaka has said that he is committed to punish those who were responsible for corruption, with no regard to their positions.
He has made this statement to BBC Sandeshaya after the swearing in of the new Cabinet of Ministers last evening.
The Jathika Hela Urumaya, of which Ranawaka is the General Secretary, along with the collaboration of Attorney-at-Law Shiral Lakthilaka, has already formed the Anti-Corruption Front to collect information on corrupt individuals. At a recently held media briefing, they invited all those who have information to provide them to the new organization.
Ranawaka was once the Minister of Power and Energy under the UPFA government. Later, the former Minister of Power and Energy Pavithra Wanniarachchi made an accusation that low-grade coal had been purchased during Ranawaka’s tenure for the Puttalam coal power plant. Ranawaka in turn revealed that he was taking measures against the wrongdoers when his ministerial portfolio had been changed.
