Veteran film director Somarathne Dissanayake has been appointed as the Chairman of the Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation, sources close to President Maithripala Sirisena confirmed Asian Mirror.
Dissanayake was a staunch supporter of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa at one point, but later aligned himself with Maithripala Sirisena who became the Common Candidate of the opposition.
Dissanayake, towards the latter part of President Rajapaksa’s rule, said he would not make films again until the Chairman of the National Film Corporation was not removed.
The Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation, a prominent state run media organization, is facing a serious financial crisis, sources from the SLRC told Asian Mirror.
Meanwhile, the SLRC, through its social media pages, apologized to the public for acting in a biased manner during the election period.
