Tamil Nadu’s ruling AIADMK today distanced itself from reports that petitions had been filed in the Madras and Karnataka High Courts seeking to shift former Chief Minister Jayalalithaa from Karnataka to Tamil Nadu.
In a statement in Chennai, headquarters secretary and Tamil Nadu Higher Education Minister P. Palaniappan said some mischievous persons with evil motives had filed these petitions. Jayalalithaa and the party had nothing to do with them, he has also told.
“When a petition seeking bail for her has been filed in the Supreme Court, her enemies have filed these petitions to create a bad name about her among the Judges,” Palaniappan has said.
Palaniappan also has stated that a team of lawyers were dealing with Jayalalithaa’s petitions and others should desist from moving courts on behalf of her.
Former Chief Minister Jayalalithaa was sentenced to four years in prison by a Karnataka High Court in an 18 year old misappropriation of assets case. Her bail plea was rejected and she remains in prison. It was Jayalalithaa who had initially requested the case to be transferred to Bangalore from Chennai.
