G. Thevaraja, the President of the Vavuniya Citizens Committee (VCC) was attacked around 5.30-6pm yesterday (08), whilst he was riding his motorbike back home from his shop in Nedunkerny, #freejeyakumary campaign announced last night.

He had gone to his shop soon after Chairing an afternoon meeting with the VCC to discuss the ‪#‎FreeJeyakumary‬ campaign protest to be held on Friday, Oct 10th, 2014, in Vavuniya. He had been assaulted by four unidentified people who had come in two motorbikes and they had attacked attacked him with iron rods. 

The campaign stated that the attackers had threatened to kill him while carrying out the attack. They also added that the attackers were allegedly non-Tamil speaking. Thevaraja, the campaign said, was rushed to the Nedunkerny hospital and has now been transferred to the Vavuniya hospital to receive further treatment. They added that his condition was not critical.

Although Asian Mirror attempted to confirm the story with the Police Department, our efforts did not bear fruit.
