The Sri Lankan navy has detained four Indian fishermen along with their mechanized boat near Neduntivu located in Sri Lankan territorial waters, during the wee hours of Tuesday.
Reports said that a large number of fishermen from Rameswaram ventured into the sea in 547 boats on Monday. While they were fishing inside Sri Lankan waters, the Sri Lankan navy personnel who arrived at the spot, surrounded the Indian boats and chased them away from their waters.
However, one of the boats developed a snag and could not move further. The four inmates tried to repair the boat but their efforts were unsuccessful.
On seeing the stranded Indian boat, the Lankan navy detained the four inmates for trespassing into their territorial waters. They were later taken to the island nation for further inquiry.
