President Mahinda Rajapaksa, commenting on the content of the resolution adopted by the 25th session of the UNHRC, has said, "we reject this".
"This resolution only hurts our reconciliation efforts. It does not help," the President has told AFP news agency this evening soon after the resolution was adopted. The President has indicated that regardless of the content of the adopted resolution, Sri Lanka has its own plans towards reconciliation.
Meanwhile, External Affairs Minister Prof. G.L. Peiris, addressing a press conference in Hambanthota, southern tip of Sri Lanka this evening, had said the resolution was part of an international conspiracy that is aimed at destabilizing the country. He also stated that it was not ethical to entrust UN Human Rights Commissioner Navi Pillay with the task of handling an investigation on Sri Lanka as she had made biased statements in the Past.
The Foreign Minister also said that Sri Lanka would only answer to its people and not to those who are making statements from abroad.
