External Affairs Ministry has reportedly asked Sri Lanka’s Deputy High Commissioner to the Maldives Dr. Chanaka H. Talpahewa to take over as chargé d'affaires in London, after the resignation of Dr. Chris Nonis as Sri Lanka’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom.

Dr. Nonis tendered his resignation after he was allegedly assaulted by a Member of Parliament at a dinner in New York last week.

The government accepted the resignation of Dr. Nonis last Friday, and had assigned Dr. Talpahewa as the chargé d’affaires of the High Commission in the UK.
