Sri Lankan High Commissioner for the UK Dr. Chris Nonis has stated that his letter of resignation has been accepted by the Ministry of External Affairs.

Dr. Nonis has said this over the phone to several news channels in the country today. He has stated that on the 24th of September he was subjected to an assault at New York by the External Affairs Ministry Monitoring MP Sajin Vass Gunawardena. He added that on the same day he met President Mahinda Rajapaksa in New York and handed over his letter of resignation.

Furthermore, he has reportedly said that his letter of resignation has been accepted yesterday.

Dr. Nonis has added that he was thankful for the opportunity he received to serve his country and his loyalty to President Rajapaksa was unchanged.
