Twelve Sri Lankan fishermen, arrested on September 30 for allegedly entering the Indian territorial waters, were today remanded to judicial custody by a court in Ramanathapuram, Tamil Nadu, till October 16.
Indian media reported that they had been produced before the Judicial Magistrate, Velusamy, by the Tuticorin Marine Coastal Police Wing personnel. The judge has remanded them to judicial custody.
The Sri Lankan fishermen would later be taken to Puzhal prison at Chennai, Marine police told local media.
The Coast Guard personnel had arrested them for entering the Indian waters 106 nautical miles off Kanyakumari and handed them over to the coastal marine Police.
