Parliament is set to convene from 3 to 6 December, with several debates planned on the Government's Policy Statement and the Vote on Account for the first four months of 2025, Secretary General of Parliament Kushani Rohanadeera said.
The decision was made during a party leaders' meeting chaired by Speaker Ashoka Ranwala on 25 November.
Debate Schedule
- 3–4 December: The Government's Policy Statement, recently presented by the President, will be debated. Sessions will run from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on 3 December and until 5:00 p.m. on 4 December, with a division on the Motion scheduled for 5:00 p.m.
- 5–6 December: The Resolution on the Vote on Account for early 2025 will be discussed from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
Parliamentary Business
Discussions during the party leaders' meeting also covered:
- Allocating debate time between the Government and Opposition.
- Establishing committees, including the Committee of Selection and the Committee on Parliamentary Business.
- Functioning of Sectoral Oversight Committees.
- A proposal to form a Women Parliamentarians' Caucus for the Tenth Parliament.
Key attendees included Deputy Speaker Rizvie Salih, Deputy Chairperson of Committees Hemali Weerasekara, Leader of the House Bimal Rathnayake, Chief Government Whip Nalinda Jayathissa, Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa, and other party leaders.
