Two individuals have died after a vehicle they were in was swept away by strong water currents at the Thummodara Canal on the Eswatta Manakada Road, in the Kosgama police division, last evening.
Police report that the vehicle, a double cab, was attempting to cross the canal when it was carried approximately 50 meters downstream. Four people, including the driver, were in the vehicle at the time. Two of them, aged 27 and 69, drowned. The deceased were residents of Balalkotuwa and Kiribathgoda.
Their bodies have been taken to the Avissawella Hospital mortuary.
