Nominations for the 2024 General Election officially opened this morning, October 4, across 22 electoral districts. This process takes place at district secretariats, as candidates prepare to vie for a position in the Parliament of Sri Lanka.

An Extraordinary Gazette notification issued by President Anura Kumara Dissanayake on September 24 confirmed November 14, 2024, as the election date. The nomination period runs from today until 12 noon on October 11, during which Returning Officers will accept nomination papers.

The Parliament consists of 225 members, with 196 elected from the districts and 29 appointed via the national list, reflecting the proportion of votes received by each party or independent group in the election.
