The National People’s Power (NPP) is going to introduce a new Constitution aimed at safeguarding citizens' rights, according to former MP Nalinda Jayatissa. Speaking at a media briefing hosted by the NPP Economic Council, Jayatissa said that the process of drafting the new Constitution will be thorough and not rushed.
"We will ensure that the new Constitution protects all citizens' rights, but we will not commit to a specific timeline. The process will involve extensive discussions with the public," Jayatissa stated.
Addressing criticisms of the NPP's election manifesto, Jayatissa invited substantive debate, dismissing social media comments as insufficient. He defended the manifesto, which was developed by experts in 39 fields, as a well-researched and practical document. Jayatissa argued that the intensity of criticism reflects the NPP's strong position in the election race.
