President Warns of Turmoil if Progress is Halted

President Ranil Wickremesinghe said that he will unveil his comprehensive plan for Sri Lanka on Thursday, August 29. Speaking at the "Puluwan Sri Lanka" rally near Mawanella bus station, the President outlined his vision for enhancing the nation’s quality of life and securing a safer environment for the youth.

President Wickremesinghe likened the country’s progress to crossing a precarious vine bridge, warning that severing this path would plunge Sri Lanka into turmoil. He criticized the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) for its manifesto, arguing that their proposed tax cuts would slash state revenue by over Rs. 200 billion, making it impossible to reduce goods prices as they claim. He questioned the JVP’s ability to manage the economy effectively under these conditions, accusing them of misleading the public with unrealistic economic proposals.
