SLPP MP Wimalaweera Dissanayake and several former local government officials have pledged their support to President Ranil Wickremesinghe in the upcoming presidential election. Meeting with the President at his Colombo office on August 26, the group included former local chairpersons Upul Priyantha, Jagath Deshapriya, Sugath Jathungaarachchi, and Indika Nilantha.

MP Dissanayake cautioned that failure to reelect Wickremesinghe could lead to severe consequences for Sri Lanka, including potential violence and constitutional threats. He said that his endorsement is a strategic choice for the nation’s benefit, despite his personal views and party alignment.
