Ex-Minister A.H.M. Fowzie Receives Suspended Sentence for Vehicle Misuse

Former Minister A.H.M. Fowzie was sentenced to two years of rigorous imprisonment, suspended for 10 years, by the Colombo High Court on August 27.
Fowzie, who pleaded guilty to misusing a luxury vehicle from the Ministry of Disaster Management, also faces a Rs. 400,000 fine.
The court found that Fowzie had used the vehicle, valued at nearly Rs. 20 million, for personal use and misappropriated nearly Rs. 1 million in maintenance funds.
Despite his guilty plea and advanced age of 86, the court opted for a lenient sentence, citing his long political career and early admission of guilt.
