The Ministry of Public Security said that Sri Lanka's on-arrival visa system will remain in place, with no alternative currently available. This decision follows a Supreme Court interim order that halted the government's plan to shift to an online visa service managed by foreign companies.
Minister Tiran Alas confirmed that the current system will continue until a new system is introduced, as mandated by the court. The Supreme Court's order suspends the Cabinet's decision to outsource e-visa services, a move that was contested by Members of Parliament Patali Champika Ranawaka, Rauf Hakeem, and M.A. Sumanthiran, who cited national security concerns.
The petitions challenging the e-visa system are set to be heard on October 4th. Until then, the on-arrival visa system remains the sole option for tourists entering Sri Lanka.
