Grama Niladhari Officers begin a week-long strike starting today, August 12, extending until August 19. As part of their action, the officers have decided to refrain from duties today and tomorrow, August 13.

Nandana Ranasinghe, Co-President of the Grama Niladhari Officers’ Alliance, said that the strike is in response to the recent issuance of a Gazette notification on the Constitution for Grama Niladharis, which allegedly disregards their input. In addition to the strike, the officers will also stage a silent protest in front of the Ministry of Public Administration today.
