Parliamentarian and Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka has resigned from his position as Chairman of the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB). The resignation was confirmed today by SJB MP J.C. Alawathuwala.

Field Marshal Fonseka recently announced his intention to contest the 2024 Presidential Election as an independent candidate. Earlier this week, he also placed a cash deposit with the National Election Commission, further solidifying his candidacy.
