A 38-year-old man died last night after attempting to seize the firearm of a police officer on duty at the Kotugoda checkpoint in Seeduwa.

The incident occurred during a routine inspection of a vehicle by a group of police officers. The man, a passenger in the vehicle, tried to grab the officer's firearm, resulting in the weapon discharging. The officer sustained a foot injury, while the passenger was shot in the stomach.
