The Secretary of the Ministry of Public Administration has issued a circular regarding the distribution of Rs.3000 allowance to pensioners during the election period. Circulars were issued yesterday to Ministry Secretaries, Heads of Departments, District Secretaries and Divisional Secretaries, and it was informed that the payment of allowances will be effective from September.

The Election Commission had recently instructed the Ministry of Public Administration, Home Affairs, Provincial Councils and Local Government to suspend the allowance until the end of the presidential election. This matter has been discussed in a discussion with the secretaries of the ministries at the Election Commission. The Election Commission is of the opinion that issuing a circular to grant the allowance ignoring the said order is against the election law.
