Leader of the National People’s Power (NPP), MP Anura Kumara Dissanayake, has officially placed his deposits with the Election Commission to contest the upcoming Presidential Election. NPP representative MP Vijitha Herath confirmed the submission, stating that nominations for Dissanayake will be submitted on August 15.
Herath expressed confidence in Dissanayake's candidacy, asserting, “The people of the country are ready to hand over the country’s power to Anura, so we laid the foundation for that.”
So far, 18 candidates have placed deposits with the Election Commission, including incumbent President Ranil Wickremesinghe, Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa, Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka, and Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe. The list comprises 7 independent candidates, 10 from recognized political parties, and 1 from other political parties.
