The Attorney General has advised Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena to adhere to the recent Supreme Court ruling concerning the Inspector General of Police (IGP). This guidance comes after the Speaker requested advice from the Attorney General's office on the matter.

The Attorney General's Department is preparing a detailed advisory report to assist the Speaker in navigating the implications of the court's decision. Despite this, Speaker Abeywardena has stated he will not discuss the matter with the Chief Justice, citing the lack of a legal basis for such discussions.

The Supreme Court recently issued an interim injunction preventing Deshbandu Tennakoon from serving as the IGP. In response, the President has called for dialogue between the Chief Justice and the Speaker to resolve the issue.
