President Highlights Economic Potential in Northern Province for National Development

 

President Ranil Wickremesinghe highlighted the untapped economic potential in Sri Lanka's Northern Province, including Jaffna, despite longstanding economic challenges faced by its residents. During a meeting with scholars, professionals, and entrepreneurs in Jaffna on August 2nd, the President discussed plans to leverage this potential to boost national economic growth.

President Wickremesinghe attributed the collapse of the country's economic and political systems to unfulfilled electoral promises and excessive borrowing. He urged all sectors, including scholars, professionals, and entrepreneurs, to support a new economic and political framework to avoid repeating past mistakes.

Addressing ethnic issues, the President called for urgent resolution and stressed the importance of equality for all ethnic and religious groups, and gender equality. He also underscored the significance of promoting the Tamil language alongside Sinhala, highlighting unique opportunities for Tamil-speaking Sri Lankans with anticipated economic growth in Tamil Nadu.
