54 More Sri Lankans to be Rescued from Myanmar Defence Ministry

The Ministry of Defence announced that 54 Sri Lankans are still awaiting rescue from Myanmar, where they are being exploited in online scams. Defence Secretary General Kamal Gunaratne (Rtd) said that diplomatic efforts, including discussions with Myanmar's Prime Minister and Defence Secretary, are ongoing to secure their release.

Additionally, the Ministry is addressing concerns over Sri Lankan war veterans caught in the Russia-Ukraine conflict and is coordinating with the Russian Ministry of Defence. Recruitment for a Red Sea mission involving 550 Sea Marshals is underway, and peacekeeping operations have resumed, with 301 troops deployed in Lebanon, South Sudan, and the Central African Republic.

In drug operations, the tri-forces have seized substantial quantities of narcotics, including heroin, cannabis, and methamphetamine, over the past two years.
