Electricity Tariff Reduction From Tomorrow

The Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL) has announced a significant reduction in electricity tariffs, set to take effect tomorrow, July 16th. During a media briefing today, PUCSL Chairman Prof. Manjula Fernando detailed the new rates aimed at easing the financial burden on consumers.

For domestic users, particularly low-income families consuming between 0-30 units, the rate per unit has been lowered from Rs. 8 to Rs. 6. For those using between 30-60 units, the price has been cut from Rs. 20 to Rs. 9 per unit.

Factories will benefit from a 33% reduction in rates during the daytime, while general-purpose electricity users will see a reduction of approximately 20%.
