President Ranil Wickremesinghe stressed the importance of adhering to existing agreements with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and other international financial institutions. Speaking at the inauguration of a new duty-free center in the Port City, he highlighted that recent economic progress has been driven by these agreements and warned that altering them could jeopardize future growth.
The President showcased developments in the Port City, including the influx of around 100 companies, with 74 expected to arrive by year-end. He also outlined plans to establish a new tourist zone in Colombo Fort, relocate key government buildings, and repurpose historical sites for tourism to boost economic activity.
President said that maintaining financial agreements without modifications is crucial for sustaining economic stability and advancing Sri Lanka’s global economic standing.
