The Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL) will announce the final decision on the proposed electricity tariff revision on July 15, after considering public feedback. PUCSL chairman Prof. Manjula Fernando stated that input was gathered from 46 pre-registered delegates representing various sectors.
The Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) submitted its tariff revision proposals to the PUCSL, which include an overall 13.8% reduction. The proposals suggest a 25.5% decrease for domestic users and a 3% reduction for religious and charitable institutions, but no changes for the hotel and industrial sectors.
Key proposed changes include:
- Reduction from Rs. 08 to Rs. 06 per unit for 0-30 units.
- Reduction from Rs. 20 to Rs. 09 per unit for 31-60 units.
- Reduction from Rs. 25 to Rs. 15 per unit for over 60 units.
- Further reductions for higher usage categories, including from Rs. 30 to Rs. 18 for 61-90 units, and from Rs. 50 to Rs. 30 for 91-120 units.
The final decision on these proposals will be revealed by the PUCSL on July 15.
