US Treasury Official Meets Sri Lankan President to Discuss Economic Recovery

 

On Monday, July 1st, Deputy Assistant Secretary of the US Treasury, Robert Kaproth, met with Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickremesinghe to discuss the nation's economic recovery efforts. He was accompanied by US Ambassador to Sri Lanka, Julie Chung.

Ambassador Chung praised Sri Lanka's progress towards economic stability while acknowledging the significant challenges still faced by many citizens. She urged the Sri Lankan government to continue implementing reforms that promote growth, transparency, and accountability, aiming for a resilient economic future.

Kaproth and Chung also held talks with State Finance Minister Shehan Semasinghe. The State Minister expressed gratitude for the USA's support in aiding Sri Lanka's economic recovery and bilateral debt restructuring. He highlighted the importance of the ongoing partnership between the two countries, highlighting  the commitment to reforms that ensure stability and mutual benefits.
