New Acting Attorney General Takes Oath

Senior Additional Solicitor General Parinda Ranasinghe has been sworn in as the Acting Attorney General before the Chief Justice. This appointment follows the Constitutional Council's rejection of a proposal to extend the term of the current Attorney General, Sanjay Rajaratnam, for an additional six months.

The proposal, submitted by President Ranil Wickremesinghe, was defeated twice at the Constitutional Council meetings, with five votes against and three in favor. Rajaratnam's term is set to expire at the end of this month.

Parinda Ranasinghe, son of former Chief Justice K. A. Parinda Ranasinghe, steps into the role following the council's decision.
