Supreme Dasatha TV Journalist Dhanushka Senevirathna Attacked: Group Claiming to be from Police Assault Journalist

The Free Media Movement (FMM) has strongly condemned the brutal assault on Supreme Dasatha TV journalist Dhanushka Seneviratne. The attack, carried out by a group allegedly claiming to be from the police, has sparked widespread outrage and calls for justice.

In a statement released earlier today, the FMM described the assault as inhumane and called for an immediate and urgent investigation to bring the perpetrators to justice. "We deem it the responsibility of the Sri Lanka Police to act swiftly and expose those responsible for the heinous act carried out in its name," the statement read.

The incident occurred at approximately 3:00 a.m. on June 21, 2024, when a group of individuals, purportedly identifying themselves as police officers, entered Seneviratne’s residence in Kelaniya. Under the pretext of searching for a certain individual, they then proceeded to viciously assault the journalist.

Seneviratne sustained severe head and arm injuries and is currently receiving treatment at the Colombo National Hospital. Medical staff have described his condition as serious but stable, with ongoing evaluations to assess the extent of his injuries.
