Sri Lankan Arrested for Attempted Murder of Fellow Lankan in Italy

A 41-year-old homeless Sri Lankan man, already known to authorities and residing illegally in Naples, was arrested for the attempted murder of a fellow Sri Lankan on Sunday, June 16. The attack occurred on Via Francesco Saverio Correra, where the suspect allegedly used a bladed weapon to inflict multiple severe wounds on a 44-year-old compatriot.

Italian media outlet IL Mattino reported that the Carabinieri intervened following a report of an injured person. The victim sustained serious injuries to the base of the neck, chest, and right thigh and is currently under observation at Pellegrini Hospital.

The Carabinieri's investigation, in collaboration with the prosecutor’s office, utilized surveillance footage and eyewitness testimonies to reconstruct the incident. The altercation, reportedly over a woman, escalated into the violent assault.

The suspect has been transferred to prison and faces charges of attempted murder. Further legal proceedings are pending under the jurisdiction of the Neapolitan judicial authority.
