Harsha de Silva, Chairman of the Committee on Public Finance (COPF), has reported receiving life threats amid a parliamentary investigation into Sri Lanka’s visa issuance process and the VFS Global deal. Addressing Parliament, De Silva expressed concern over various attempts to deter his investigation, questioning if he was expected to ignore corruption. He also mentioned the emergence of false media reports aiming to discredit him.
Haraba de Silva said he has faced immense pressure from fellow MPs since initiating the probe into the controversial visa deal. Despite Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardene's remark that no official complaint regarding threats has been received, Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa and MP Mujibur Rahuman have called for increased security for Harsha de Silva.
