Minister of Agriculture Mahinda Amaraweera announced that over 15,000 acres of agricultural land have been destroyed due to recent heavy rains. The Western Province, along with the Galle and Matara Districts, reported the most significant crop losses.

The Department of Agriculture Sri Lanka will implement measures to compensate farmers for the damage. The heavy rains have also impacted several paddy fields across the island, further exacerbating the agricultural crisis.
