Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa has voiced concerns regarding the alleged lack of communication to government officials regarding the increase in dry ration and cooked meal allowances for disaster victims. Premadasa stated that despite inquiries, officials have not received the relevant circular outlining the increase.
Premadasa highlighted the issue in Parliament, saying that verbal instructions are inadequate for implementing regulations effectively. He urged for proper dissemination of information to ensure timely and efficient assistance to disaster-affected communities.
In response, State Minister of Defence Premitha Bandara Tennakoon refuted the allegations, stating that local government officials were briefed via online meetings on allocating necessary funds. Tennakoon highlighted the availability of Rs. 160 million in unutilized funds with local government authorities and assured that divisional and district secretaries were informed about utilizing these funds to aid flood-affected communities. She said that communication channels were active, contradicting Premadasa's claims of uninformed officials.
