SLPP Members Clash: Police to Record Statements from Other MPs

The Fort Police have notified the Sri Lankan Parliament of their intent to record statements from several Members of Parliament (MPs) following a recent altercation between Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) members Gunathilaka Rajapaksha and Mahindananda Aluthgamage.

According to Police Spokesman DIG Nihal Thalduwa, the brawl occurred during a ruling party meeting on Monday. In the aftermath, Gunathilaka Rajapaksha's son filed a complaint with the Colombo-Fort Police, alleging that Aluthgamage assaulted his father.

Police have already obtained a statement from Rajapaksha, who is currently receiving treatment at the Army Hospital in Colombo. To further investigate the incident, the Colombo-Fort Police have requested statements from other MPs who witnessed the altercation. This request was formally communicated to the Parliament on Wednesday, June 5.
