The International Monetary Fund (IMF) is set to discuss the Article IV consultation and the second review under the Extended Fund Facility (EFF) for Sri Lanka next week. According to State Minister of Finance Shehan Semasinghe, the discussion is on the agenda for the IMF Board meeting on Wednesday, June 12, 2024.
“The session will evaluate Sri Lanka’s economic policies and reform progress. We look forward to the continued support of all countries for a successful review to unlock the third tranche, which will further enhance economic stability, growth, and reform efforts,” Semasinghe stated in post on 'X'
In December 2023, the IMF's Executive Board approved the first review of Sri Lanka's program, enabling a disbursement of $337 million. By March 2024, IMF staff and Sri Lankan authorities had reached a staff-level agreement on economic policies to conclude the second review and the 2024 Article IV consultation.
