Army Commander Initiates Legal Action under Online Safety Act

 

Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage, Commander of the Sri Lanka Army, has taken legal action against an individual and two US companies for disseminating defamatory content about him on social media.

Filed at the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday (May 07), the case invokes the provisions of the Online Safety Act. Thushara Saliya Ranawaka, a Sri Lankan residing abroad, along with American multinational corporation Google and its subsidiary YouTube, have been cited as respondents.
