Prison Officials Clarify Johnston’s Letter from Welikada

The Department of Prisons has denied reports suggesting that former Minister Johnston Fernando, who is currently in remand custody, has written a letter from prison. In a statement, the department explained that any correspondence from a suspect or prisoner is submitted to the Commissioner General of Prisons under the strict supervision of the relevant Superintendent of Prisons, in line with established prison rules and regulations.

"Regarding this specific incident, the prison has not received any letter authored by Johnston Fernando," the statement said, adding that Fernando had informed the Prison Superintendent that he was unaware of the letter's publication.

Meanwhile, speaking to Asian Mirror, a member of Fernando’s media team stated that it was promotional material prepared by them for the upcoming General Election campaign.
