In response to internal turmoil within the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP), Minister of Ports, Aviation, and Shipping, Nimal Siripala de Silva, has been appointed as the party's Acting Chairman.
The decision was made during a politburo meeting led by former President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga. Notably, former President Maithripala Sirisena, along with key figures, was absent from the meeting.
The appointment comes amidst legal actions against Sirisena, who faces an interim injunction preventing him from functioning as SLFP chairman.
Additionally, the party faces internal challenges, including allegations of missing files from its headquarters. Meanwhile, Sirisena has hinted at disclosing information regarding the 2019 Easter Sunday terror attacks, adding another layer of complexity to the ongoing saga within the party.
