A 53-year-old individual lost his life in a police shooting during a clash in Padiyadora, Mawanella.

According to reports from the authorities, Mawanella Police received a distress call concerning the dispute late last night. Upon arriving at the scene, one of the individuals involved allegedly attacked a policeman with a sharp object, prompting another officer to fire a warning shot. However, the situation escalated as the assailant attempted to harm another policeman, leading to fatal gunfire.The deceased, identified as a 53-year-old resident of the area, was rushed to Mawanella Hospital but succumbed to his injuries.
Police claim he was a suspected criminal involved in drug-related activities.

Meanwhile, the two injured police officers are receiving medical treatment at Mawanella Hospital.
