In response to an incident involving the alleged assault of two foreign nationals at Nawalapitiya railway station, three officials have been suspended.
The Railways General Manager, H.M.K. Bandara, confirmed the suspension of two station masters and a railway controller, with a thorough investigation underway.
The altercation occurred as the two British nationals traveled from Colombo to Badulla on the Podi Manike train, having commenced their journey at Kandy station.
According to Railway Superintendent N.J. Indipolage, the passengers were removed from the train for occupying first-class seats despite holding third-class tickets.
President of the Sri Lanka Railways Station Master’s Association, Sumedha Somaratne, affirmed that railway guards instructed the passengers to disembark, but they refused, leading to their removal from the train.
