The Sri Lankan government has greenlit a proposal to introduce a gold shop within the Departure/Transit area of Katunayake's Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA).

The initiative, aimed at expanding business opportunities, was put forth by the Airports and Air Services (Sri Lanka (Private)) Company Limited.Presently, such a service is lacking at the airport, prompting the decision to establish a dedicated gold outlet.

Following Cabinet approval, the Minister of Ports, Shipping, and Aviation will soon issue tenders through an international competitive procurement process to select a suitable operator for this venture.
