Deshabandu Tennakoon Assumes Duties as 36th Inspector General of Police

Senior DIG Deshabandu Tennakoon has officially become the 36th Inspector General of Police (IGP) of Sri Lanka.

Appointed on February 26 by President Ranil Wickremesinghe, Tennakoon received his official appointment letter at the Presidential Secretariat from Secretary to the President Mr. Saman Ekanayake.

Tennakoon had been serving as Acting IGP since November 29, 2023.

Tennakoon's appointment as Police chief has come under severe criticism from various quarters including the opposition.
