Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka, a prominent figure within the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB), has launched a scathing attack on the party's decision to extend an invitation to former Army Commander General Daya Ratnayaka. Fonseka's fiery remarks came during a media address at yesterday's protest rally, where he vehemently criticized Ratnayaka's alleged role in fabricating charges against him during the Rajapaksa administration.
"It was Daya Ratnayaka who compiled fraudulent charges against me to please the Rajapaksas," Fonseka declared, accusing Ratnayaka of being complicit in undermining justice for political gain. "As a result, he was made the Army Commander by them. He was the right-hand man of Gotabhaya Rajapaksa. So, if Ratnayaka can be taken, Gotabhaya can also be taken."
Fonseka's statement reverberates throughout the political landscape, highlighting deep-seated divisions within the SJB and raising questions about the party's commitment to its founding principles.
The Field Marshal's assertion that Ratnayaka's potential membership could pave the way for the inclusion of figures with ties to the previous Rajapaksa regime underscores broader concerns about accountability and transparency within the party.
