The International Cricket Council (ICC) has officially lifted the ban imposed on Sri Lanka Cricket, marking the resolution of a tumultuous period marred by political interference in the sport's administration.
The ban, initiated on November 10, 2023, stemmed from concerns regarding governmental influence over cricket affairs, prompting a swift response from the global cricketing body. Sports Minister Harin Fernando, who succeeded his predecessor amidst the crisis, played a pivotal role in restoring stability to Sri Lanka Cricket by reinstating the previous administration.
The reinstatement follows the dismissal of former Sports Minister Roshan Ranasinghe, who had appointed an interim committee, a move rejected by the ICC.
With the return to the old administration, Sri Lanka Cricket is now eligible to the privileges granted to ICC full members.
